Los Angeles Triathlon
September 7, 2008
I was fortunate enough to snag an all access press pass for the Los Angeles Triathlon the other day (thanks Susan!). The course is an interesting one, starting just north of the Venice pier. Depending on the category (Sprint or Olympic), the athletes swam between .75 km and 1.5 km, before jumping on their bikes for a 30 km/40 km ride to downtown LA. The athletes transitioned to the run at the Staples Center, heading off on a 5k/10k loop up Grand Avenue to the Disney Concert Hall. As luck would have it, Matt Jackson, a buddy of mine from college, was competing in his first triathlon that morning. I only found out while I was leaving the beach and heard Cyndi yelling my name. So we went back to cheer and take pics. :) In the end, he took 3rd in his age group with an impressive time of 1:37:01, only 10.5 minutes behind the overall leader.
