The trip up San Gorgonio was one of those "because we can" kind of trips. It's pretty insane to hike and camp in the snow. It makes everything so much more difficult. We had wind kicking around at about 30mph, so we dug down a few feet to get out of it. We melted snow to make a very tasteless water. And then to top things off, one of the tent poles was broken which meant a portion of the tent flapped around all night in the howling wind. We did have some time to mess around the next day. Andrew hiked up the backside of the mountain to get a ski run in, we also turned our air mattresses into sleds. One word of caution, when you're rushing to take down the tent in the morning, don't just fling the poles behind you. Mine slid about 60 yards across the snow bowl below us, before entering a wooded ravine and sliding another 100 yards. we did come across a fresh avalanche that carved its way through the woods. The photo of the ice droplet was in one of the walls as we climbed up out the avalanche debris.
