Convict Canyon
June 2006
This trip was our first to utilize crampons and an ice axe. It actually made for an easy trip because there is less likely hood of slipping wearing crampons, then there is with hiking over loose scree and talus in the summer. We set up camp in the valley of Lake Mildred, about 100 yards upstream. It was a bit chilly with the snow on the ground. The dampness of the meadow made it impossible to start a fire, but at least there were no mosquitos that early in the spring. The early nights also allowed me to take some exposure shots of the sky and of our tent.
